The holy town of Rishikesh is 228 km northeast of Dehli, 24 km north of Haridwar and 43 Km south of capital city Dehradun. City is spread on the right bank of holy river Ganges. It is surrounded by the hills on three sides and is preached at the altitude of 356 meteres above the sea level. The name Rishikesh is loosely applied to an association of five distinct sections encompassing not only town but also hemlets and settlements on both sides of the river. The Rishikesh itself, the commercial hub; the sprawling suburban of Muni-Ki-Reti or the "sand of sages"; Shivnanda Nagar, north of Rishikesh; Temple section of Laxman jhula, a little further north; and the assorted ashrams around Swarg Ashram on the east bank.
